Accelerating treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

A collaboration with a medical researchers at Oxford University to try and find the cause of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), otherwise known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

The project uses Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) data obtained from the UK ME/CFS biobank, which includes samples of ME/CFS, Multiple Sclerosis and healthy control groups.

A technique called Raman spectroscopy is then used and visualised in Zegami, which is able to clearly differentiate between the three different groups. These results represent an important first step in developing a diagnostic test for the bacteria.

We recommend starting with a feasibility study, followed by a simple prototype to better understand the problem and to demonstrate value as early on as possible without committing too many resources. Once established, we will then work with you to develop a plan to grow the prototype into a robust, production ready system and outline what’s needed to monitor it and mitigate against issues like data and concept drift.

Not all images are created equal. Sometimes images that have been captured in one environment don’t translate well to the real world. By engaging early on in a feasibility study, we will review your images and data to provide recommendations as to how best to proceed to maximize your return on investment.
This very much depends on the type of images, how diverse and representative of the real world they are, the industry that you are in and acceptable accuracy. We’ve found that somewhere between 1,000 – 10,000 images is a good starting point without committing too much effort. There are several techniques at our disposal that we use to eek as much as we can out of even relatively small image sets and can often get within 60 – 80% of our stated goals. From there we will then put together a specific plan on how to enrich, annotate and augment the data sets to close the gap on the remaining 20%.
We completely understand that the cloud isn’t always the best option, especially if your data is sensitive or just too big to move! Which is why we have a completely flexible approach and will work with you to support your deployment requirements. Out of the box the Zegami Machine Learning Suite can be deployed either fully on premise or in hybrid configurations.
